THE woman from Pakatan Harapan’s Cameron Highlands by-election machinery who gave out money to a group of people has been questioned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
The woman was grilled for three hours at the MACC’s operations room in Tanah Rata last night, an agency source said.
“We are investigating whether the distribution of money was a bribe or not,” the source said, adding that the woman had come forward to the MACC.
A picture of the woman wearing a red Pakatan Harapan T-shirt and distributing cash had gone viral on social media shortly after nomination day last Saturday, with pro-Barisan Nasional critics claiming PH was bribing voters.
PH leaders, however, came out in defence of the pictures, saying RM20 was given as out as “petrol money” to volunteers who travelled to Tanah Rata to help out on nomination day.
Several police reports had been lodged over the photo.
It is also understood that Perak MACC has also called in witnesses, including individuals in the photo.
MACC Perak director Zainul Darus declined to elaborate on the matter when contacted. – January 16, 2019.
