MINISTERS are party leaders and, thus, should chip in with Pakatan Harapan’s by-election campaign in Cameron Highlands, Azmin Ali said today.
The economic affairs minister said, however, it was important that ministers who do campaign not misuse the government machinery or abuse their power.
Azmin said it was a minister’s duty to look into the people’s problems and address them.
“We would like to ensure there is no misuse of power. I visited Cameron Highlands in my own car; I did not use a government vehicle.
“What more, the campaign starts tomorrow. It is the job of ministers to look into the problems faced by the people,” Azmin said.
Azmin was responding to rights group Bersih 2.0’s statement that the presence of ministers in Cameron Highlands before the by-election campaign was unethical, even though it was not against the law.
On Sunday, Bersih had called on ministers to put off their visits and programmes in Cameron Highlands until after the January 26 by-election. – January 11, 2019.
