TWO individuals, including a deputy director of the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission, are under remand today after they were nabbed in a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission sting operation yesterday.

The duo allegedly solicited and accepted RM270,000 from a contractor in return for awarding the project.

Putrajaya magistrate Low Wen Zhen today granted remand until Sunday.

MACC picked up the deputy director, 42, from a restaurant at a Putrajaya mall yesterday about 8pm.

Also detained was a debt collector, 43, at the same time and location.

Sources said the deputy director had sought the bribe from a consultant in return for communication tower projects worth RM31 million in Kelantan and Terengganu.

The civil servant allegedly received several payments in 2015 and 2016 amounting to RM248,000, sources said.

MACC also seized RM50,000, which was part of the RM270,000 bribe.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Azam Baki confirmed the case. – January 10, 2019.

  • Tower Projects funded by USO fees are prone to graft & corrupt practices. There are companies that exist for just fleecing MCMC USO fees.

  • Its still a very dirty civil service. The civil service in Malaysia has been tainted and cannot be trusted! In a nutshell this would be peoples perceptions. It is sad because there are still many, many honest, sincere and hard working public servants out there but how do you differentiate the good from the rotten?
A thorough unorthodox cleansing exercise must be conducted by the Chief Secretary to the Government. The CSs office must launch a series of mandatory programmes and assessment/debriefing for various levels of the civi service.
A committee task force should be established in identifying and implementing such programmes. Assessments to be conducted bi-annually.
It can be done.. For it to work there must not only be political will but commitment & determination by the people driving such initiatives..
All civil servants MUST BE INCLUDED in the programme including all enforcement & policing departments, divisions, etc.

  • Kalau Kepala Bapak kat atas tak bermoral and rompak kazanah negara, orang bawahan pun ada alasan boleh curi.

Kalau Kepala Bapak kat atas rompak 60 billion ringgit, apalah 270,000?

What a rotten land. Clean them up quick. The country badly needs a MORAL rescue

  • Good! More bad apples identified. Slowly but surely MACC is cleaning out the barrel and the corruption will fall drastically. Zero tolerance has to be the rule.
