DR Mahathir Mohamad has roasted leaders of Barisan Nasional who are now attempting to “teach” the new Pakatan Harapan government how “to solve the country’s problems that they created” while they were in power.

“If they are so smart, why did they not repair the damage they wrought while they were in power?” Dr Mahathir said in his policy address at the opening of Bersatu’s annual general assembly (AGM).

“Many in the public no longer pay attention to the actions that we are taking against these former leaders. In fact these former leaders are now trying to teach us how to solve the country’s problems. Problems which they themselves left us.”

The PH government has revealed that the former BN administration led by Najib Razak had racked up close to RM1 trillion in debt that the country is now struggling to pay off.

These include RM42 billion in borrowings from scandal-ridden, state firm 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MBD) which the government has had to take on.

Najib headed 1MBD’s advisory board and has been charged in court for fraud and abuse of power in connection with the firm’s losses.

After Najib was ousted from power in the 14th general election, the former prime minister has been active in criticising the current government’s policies and missteps.

Besides Najib, the government has also prosecuted his wife, Rosmah Mansor and his deputy Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for abuse of power and money-laundering.

In his speech, Dr Mahathir also rued the fact that some Malaysians did not accept that these former leaders had committed crimes while they were in office.

He also chastised former Umno leaders who were now attempting to make a political comeback by organising racist rallies and fashioning themselves as “champions of the Malays”.

Zahid, who is now Umno president, was one of the VIPs at a recent rally to protest against a United Nations convention against racism. The rally, which was organised by Malay groups and attended by Islamist party PAS, was notorious for its racist speeches.

“These people are not sincere. The people will not be deceived by their actions. If they were really sincere (in the first place) we would not be having any of these problems.” – December 29, 2018.

  • I really hope the Malays will wake up to the fact that they have been used UMNO for its own selfish needs. Now UMNO seems to be championing racism and creating fear amongst Malays towards the other races as they seem to have no other means of winning back support.

  • Umno followers are still holding out for umno to take over the government somehow, so that they can continue to rob Malaysia. Thats why they dont condemn the guilty thieves. They will another 4 years unless PH convinces everyone they have their act together. Even if PH jails them now, if umno comes to power they break them out and make them king of thieves again.

  • They would rather see the country in financial crisis by draining the treasury and all the GLCs that have big surpluses. They have no fear as their billions are parked off shore just let the economy ruined and they will pick up the choice businesses like in a cheap sale. Bladdy corrupted rascals and thieves PH must put away all of them in Sg Buluh and throw away the keys. Never in their wildest dreams that they have to pay for the crimes committed. GOD is great.
