DR Mahathir Mohamad has roasted leaders of Barisan Nasional who are now attempting to “teach” the new Pakatan Harapan government how “to solve the country’s problems that they created” while they were in power.
The PH government has revealed that the former BN administration led by Najib Razak had racked up close to RM1 trillion in debt that the country is now struggling to pay off.
These include RM42 billion in borrowings from scandal-ridden, state firm 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MBD) which the government has had to take on.
Najib headed 1MBD’s advisory board and has been charged in court for fraud and abuse of power in connection with the firm’s losses.

After Najib was ousted from power in the 14th general election, the former prime minister has been active in criticising the current government’s policies and missteps.
Besides Najib, the government has also prosecuted his wife, Rosmah Mansor and his deputy Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for abuse of power and money-laundering.
In his speech, Dr Mahathir also rued the fact that some Malaysians did not accept that these former leaders had committed crimes while they were in office.
He also chastised former Umno leaders who were now attempting to make a political comeback by organising racist rallies and fashioning themselves as “champions of the Malays”.
Zahid, who is now Umno president, was one of the VIPs at a recent rally to protest against a United Nations convention against racism. The rally, which was organised by Malay groups and attended by Islamist party PAS, was notorious for its racist speeches.
“These people are not sincere. The people will not be deceived by their actions. If they were really sincere (in the first place) we would not be having any of these problems.” – December 29, 2018.
