BERSATU Youth (Armada) wants the party to implement a one member one vote system for their party elections next year, said Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
The Armada chief said the principle of one member one vote is important because they want the voices and roles played by the grassroots to be heard.
“We have discussed what is the new party election model that we want to present, which is one member one vote.
“The mechanism for this new model has to be updated maybe with the Supreme Council but this has to be discussed further,” he said at the Bersatu annual general assembly in Putrajaya today.
Syed Saddiq said that the most important issue is that Armada wants to get rid of money politics and the warlords that are around.
“
Syed Saddiq also said there were calls to set up a special committee to filter Umno leaders that want to join Bersatu.
“This committee will be headed by Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin or his deputy Mukhriz Mahathir.
“There also must be representation from the party wings, especially Armada, to ensure they are properly filtered.”
He said Umno defects also have to declare their assets, apologise and not ask for positions in the party.
Umno to date has lost 17 parliamentarians, leaving the former Barisan Nasional lynchpin party with 37 out of the 54 federal seats it had won in GE14.
The parliamentarians who have declared themselves as independents are expected to join Bersatu eventually. – December 29, 2018.
