BERSATU Youth wants Putrajaya to stop giving aid to rich Malays, said Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

Syed Saddiq, who heads the wing also known as Armada, said that this was one of the issues raised by many delegates during their closed-door debates this morning at the party’s annual general assembly.

“They asked that payments given to rich Malays, such as discounts on land, should instead be given to the B40 group,” he said.

Syed Saddiq said that they wanted affirmative action policies to be channelled to the Malays in the lower-income group.

“These should be given to under-privileged Malays, because there are no policies for the B40 group,” he told reporters.

Syed Saddiq said that even today, those with assets of more than RM1 million are given discounts to buy land and houses.

He said that discounts should be given to those in the B40 group, instead of rich Malays.

“We have to refocus the Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) to help the B40 group.

“This is one of the main issues that needs to be looked at.”

Syed Saddiq said that there were also many discussions on what future jobs would look like.

“There was a motion to bring back the teaching of Science and Mathematics in English, but in close collaboration with Dewan Bahasa and Pustaka.

“According to Khazanah Research Institute, the reasons why youth are jobless include a lack of soft skills, confidence, and mastery of English.

“This is important (for youth) to move forward.”

Syed Saddiq said another issue discussed was how more youth should take up leadership in the government, no matter their background.

“Not only on the ministerial level, but as heads of villages, council members, or on the boards of government-linked companies.

“This is so that the youth will have a bigger role to play in navigating the future of the country.” – December 29, 2018.
