BERSATU will continue to protect the position of Malays under the Pakatan Harapan government, says Muhyiddin Yassin.
The Bersatu president said that they are the only party in Pakatan Harapan who takes care and fight for the plight of the Malays and Bumiputera without waiving the rights of other races.
“We admit that there have been many initiatives implemented and institutions which was set up to enhance the achievement of the various Malay areas.
“Unfortunately, at the end of the Barisan Nasional government, the institutions for Malays like Felda, Tabung Haji and MARA was robbed by greedy Umno leaders.
“These institutions have collapsed and were almost destroyed due to abuse of power and irregularities by the former government,” he said at the Bersatu annual general assembly in Putrajaya today.
Muhyiddin said as a party of the people, Bersatu does not have to apologise for championing the Bumiputera Agenda.
“This is big challenge, for Bersatu to prove to the Malays their position will be more secure under the administration of the Pakatan Harapan government.
“Therefore, I would like to emphasise that Bersatu will champion a new Bumiputera Agenda policy that will truly be true to all Malays and Bumiputeras.
Muhyiddin said that he will suggest to the PH presidential council that the Bumiputera agenda is accepted by the cabinet and be implemented as a national agenda.
He said the implementation of the new Bumiputera agenda will be different from the old one.
“We will make sure the implementation is done earnestly, transparent and free from corrupt practices and leakages.
“In addition, continuous monitoring will be undertaken by a body with executive powers to ensure that the policies and goals are fully achieved.
“This body will be responsible for identifying any issues at the implementation stage and present it to the government to be solved.”
He said apart from the role of the government in implementing the Bumiputera agenda, the Malays should also change their attitude in order to succeed.
“In a world which is getting very competitive daily, the government aid is simply inadequate to ensure the success of the Malays.
“More than that, the Malays themselves should always strive to improve themselves and increase their competitiveness.”
Muhyiddin said said the Malays should to be more diligent, disciplined and daring to take risks to venture into entrepreneurship and new business.
“The government can provide assistance but only ourselves alone who can change the fate of our nation.” – December 28, 2018.
