NURUL Izzah Anwar’s decision to step down as PKR vice-president today caught both Pakatan Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad and PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali by surprise.

Asked to comment on the matter, Dr Mahathir said he was not aware of it.

“What? Oh, as vice-president. Not from PKR,” said the prime minister at an event in Cyberjaya.

“I don’t know, she must have her reasons. I don’t know anything about what is happening in PKR.”

Meanwhile, Azmin told reporters: “I just learnt about it this morning.”

He added that he will “try to talk to her and understand what really happened. I’ve got nothing else to comment”.

Nurul Izzah also said she will no longer serve the government in any capacity.

Her announcement comes a day after she tweeted angrily about news of defections by Umno lawmakers and members amid speculation that Pakatan Harapan parties would accept them.

“Betrayal of mandate given the 9th of May, insults those who are loyal to the cause. Our party was attacked before by defections. Wouldn’t want that kind of pain and antics upon anyone else. There is no meaning to democracy if Malaysia is governed by elite based politicking.”

Her move to relinquish the Penang PKR chief’s post also follows party member Latheefa Koya’s criticism earlier today of her appointment, which was made by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim. – December 17, 2018.

  • Well Mahathir, if you took more time to govern the coalition, than to entertain the toads from UMNO, then perhaps you would be aware?

  • Your fault TDM. Not only will you lose talent like her, you will also lose voters like us because you accept scumbags we clearly rejected.

And by the way we dont need another national car.
If you want a national car let it fight in open market without subsidies etc and dont make us pay expensive prices for imported cars.

  • Izzah went to London and thought she got a repented old man. The way old man openly embrace his old umno buddies is an insult to everyone who gave their lives fighting his umno buddies.
