THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission should make public the outcome of investigations into claims of conflict of interest involving Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor’s move to award the contract for the Taman Rimba Kiara development, said Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) residents.

“So far, MACC has told (Segambut MP) Hannah Yeoh that investigations are ongoing, but that’s it, no further information,” said Leon Koay, coordinator for the Save Taman Rimba Kiara group.

He said there have been multiple MACC reports lodged against former Federal Territories minister Tengku Adnan, including in May last year by residents, November last year by Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng, and May and November this year by Yeoh.

“As there have been no updates from MACC, the residents publicly request that MACC provide to the public updates on the status of the investigations into the Taman Rimba Kiara development,” he told a press conference today.

Koay said Section 23 of the MACC Act can be used to stop further development in Taman Rimba Kiara if it is proven that “some benefit” was gained by Tengku Adnan in the awarding of the contract.

“Basically, Section 23 deals with acts by a public officer in relation to gratification.

“In relation to the Taman Rimba Kiara situation, we just have to prove that some benefit was gained.”

Opponents to the development have said the conflict of interest allegations stem from the position held by Tengku Adnan, who was chairman of Yayasan Wilayah Perseketuan, which had joint ventures with the Malton Group, the developer of the Taman Rimba Kiara project.

Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad had said the ministry would review the contract for the development, involving the construction of eight blocks of 42- and 52-storey high-end service apartments and a 30-storey block of affordable housing units.

However, on November 24, he told a town hall with TTDI residents that the development is legal and binding.

Koay previously said Taman Rimba Kiara was not set up to host commercial or high-density development, and works should have never taken place. – December 17, 2018.
