SPECIAL privileges for Malays should be capped or have a time limit to ensure healthy competition between the various races, said a Setiawangsa Amanah delegate.

“There should be a limit on special privileges for Malays,” said Asma Alif during the debate on a resolution to turn Amanah’s brand of Islam – “rahmatan lila’lamin” (progress for all) – into a national agenda.

“The limit can be based on the number of chances, or a time limit, so that the Chinese and Indians can advance together,” said Asma at the Amanah convention in Ipoh today.

The Pulai division had proposed the resolution as many still did not understand Amanah’s concept of Islam.

He noted that racial politics had gotten worse and Amanah’s concept of progress for all could overcome the phenomenon.

“Islam’s image has been tarnished. It is seen as violent, weak, and unable to defend the rights of the non-Muslims.

“This concept will open a new dimension for Muslims to consider,” said Pulai delegate Abdul Aziz Muhammad.

The resolution was passed after eight supported and four rejected during the debate. The resolution was among 14 resolutions passed today at the Amanah convention. – December 15, 2018.

  • Please don't forget the Orang Asal, who are more numerous than those classified as 'Indians'. Amanah should be less Peninsula-centric and become more familiar with the reality in East Malaysia.

    • It would be even better to stop talking about 'Malays', 'Chinese', 'Indians', 'Orang Asal' or whatever and start talking about Malaysians, full stop.
