PONTIAN MP Ahmad Maslan has a bright future in Umno and should stick with the party, said Nurul Izzah Anwar.
The Permatang Pauh lawmaker and PKR vice-president said she appreciates the fact that Ahmad actively engages in debates in Parliament.
“I do not want him to jump ship. Not to PKR or Bersatu. Please stay in Umno.
“I mean, do your job. You have been in power for so long and I am sure you will be a great opposition. That is what Malaysia needs,” she said at the New Malaysia Rising: The Challenge of Fulfilling The Dream forum at Sunway University today.
Earlier today, Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa said the party is aware that some of its MPs from Sabah are planning to quit.
He said some state Umno leaders have met Prime Minister and Bersatu chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Former Umno stalwart Rais Yatim previously said it would come as no surprise if more party leaders left the Barisan Nasional lynchpin.

Nurul Izzah said Pakatan Harapan must be respectful of the opposition, as no government can function well without a strong opposition.
“Who do you think got the second-biggest support after Umno?”
She said Umno members must fully understand the impact of switching parties, a practice that should be stopped.
“I think the key aspect of engagement in this democracy, or in any democracy, is respect.
“The fact that at the end of the day, you (political parties) are meeting because you care about the future of the country.
“You are not there to ask people to jump (ship)... (if so,) you would not be just insulting them, but also yourself.” – December 11, 2018.
