THERE are more pressing matters than putting the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal in the history books, said Parti Bersatu Sabah secretary-general Jahid Jahim.
Jahid hit out at the suggestion by the education minister, saying Maszlee Malik should first focus on the formation of Malaysia in the school books.
“It is so immature of him to think that including the 1MDB scandal into Malaysian history would deter people from repeating the mistake.
“The scandal shamed Malaysia. Acknowledging it as something historical will not just shame those involved, but the country as a whole.
“I am sure it will never be forgotten, whether it is in the textbooks or not,” said Jahid, responding to Mazslee’s pledge in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He pointed out that the scandal is still being heard in court, and no one has been proven guilty to date.
Jahid said Mazslee should focus on improving the textbooks’ content on Malaysia Agreement 1963 and the truth that Malaysia was formed in 1963, not 1957.
“A large number of Malaysians, particularly those in the peninsular, are unaware of Malaysia’s formation. Many do not respect MA63, as well as Sabah and Sarawak’s status and participation in making Malaysia possible.
“In fact, I believe even the minister has little understanding of the meaning of history. If he meant economic history, then scandals such as Bumiputra Malaysia Finance, Bank Negara Malaysia’s billions in losses from currency trading, and Perwaja Steel, to mention a few, should be included. Why hide these facts?” – December 3, 2018.
