UMNO firebrand Tajuddin Abdul Rahman accused the Pakatan Harapan government of being racist and unsympathetic to Malays, in what appears to be a bid to stir up racial sentiments ahead of a mega-rally in protest against ICERD on Saturday.
ICERD stands for the United Nations’ International Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination and Umno, PAS and Malay groups said ratifying it would mean the end of special Malay privileges and rights.
Even though Putrajaya has abandoned plans to ratify ICERD, organisers of the December 8 rally have pledged to go on with the event.
Tajuddin, who was a speaker at last night’s anti-ICERD gathering in Perlis, said next year’s national budget presented by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng saw huge cuts to aid and incentives for farmers and fishermen, most of whom were Malay.
Tajuddin said the previous Barisan Nasional government had “pitied fishermen” and given them RM300 in monthly aid.
“Because (Lim) is the finance minister, who is non-Malay, who is not of our race, he has no sympathy.
“This is the Pakatan Harapan government that we cannot hope will take care of our community, our religion.”
Tajuddin next took aim at Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P. Waytha Moorthy, the government’s point-man on ratifying ICERD, whom he called “racist”.
“Waytha Moorthy had once said Malays are not the original inhabitants of this land. So racist. He said Malays are not the indigenous people, that Malays are foreigners and Indians are indigenous.
“He said Malays didn’t even know how to wear clothes – meaning Malays wore loincloths – and Malays didn’t even have religion. These were the words of Waytha Moorthy.
“And he said we don’t have the right to ask for special privileges in terms of language and religion. He wants our religions to be equal. Can we accept this?”
Tajuddin said although PH was led by Malays such as Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim, they had no real influence.
“Dr Mahathir has no power even though he is the prime minister. Because in PH he is dependent on support from other parties.
“The party with many seats in the government is DAP. He is dependent on DAP. He is forced to bow to DAP and he appointed Lim Guan Eng finance minister.”
Within the Pakatan Harapan pact, PKR has the most MPs in the Dewan Rakyat at 50, followed by the DAP at 42. Bersatu has 15 MPs and Amanah, 11.
Tajuddin said the same of PKR president Anwar, who was “dependent on all the non-Malays in his party” for his political survival.
“PKR is not a Malay or Islamic party. Only 20% of PKR members are Malay and 80% are non-Malay.
“They use Anwar. Anwar is forced to work with them for his political survival.” – December 3, 2018.
