FORMER Public Accounts Committee chairman Hasan Arifin said the committee under his watch had assumed the auditor-general’s audit report on 1Malaysia Development Bhd in 2016 was the original report.

Hasan said the PAC then did not know of any amendments made to the report and took it as it was.

“No, we didn’t know. We assumed it was the report.

“We didn’t know (of any amendments) and took whatever Ambrin Buang brought to the PAC as the report,” he told reporters in the Parliament lobby today.

The auditor-general at the time, Ambrin has been named as one of the senior civil servants present when former prime minister Najib Razak gave orders for the report to be altered before it was presented to the PAC.

Among the amendments made was the removal of paragraphs pertaining to 1MDB’s financial statements for the year 2014, and a paragraph that stated the attendance of wanted businessman Low Taek Jho at a meeting of 1MDB directors.

These revelations were made on Sunday by Ambrin’s successor, Auditor-General Madinah Mohamad.

Hasan also said Ambrin had previously denied any amendments were made to the report.

“Ambrin had denied there were amendments. We took the original one at the time.”

On October 30, Ambrin had denied the report had been tampered with after PAC deputy chairman Wong Kah Woh said it had been amended.

Ambrin was supposed to meet with the PAC for the proceeding on 1MDB’s investigation on October 29, but committee chairman Ronald Kiandee cancelled the session saying that the probe had been indefinitely suspended on the advice of the attorney-general, who has brought charges against Najib over the scandal.

The proceeding is scheduled to resume for three days on December 4. – November 27, 2018.

  • This is the guy who on his own accord surreptitiously deleted certain crucial passages relating to the PAC report that pointed to Jho Low's involvement, and now pretends to be unaware that the Auditor General's report had been altered. Presumably the instructions for both deletions came from the same source - MO1.
