DEWAN Negara president Vigneswaran Sanasee has accused Transport Minister Anthony Loke of tarnishing his name by publicising his violation of airport security rules without checking his side of the story first.
The MIC president also said he did nothing wrong as he was not stopped by anyone at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on November 14 while sending off his daughter.
“They could have stopped me but they didn’t. I didn’t even know there was an issue. If there was, they should have stopped me,” Vigneswaran told The Malaysian Insight.
Vigneswaran refuted Loke’s statement that he had been stopped by a security officer.
Instead, he said he was ushered to a lift so that he could speak to a customer officer about his dress code violation.
He said he was wearing slippers because of a boil on his foot, but had tried to contact his officers to retrieve his shoes from his car.
The MIC president said the security officer shown in the video footage at Loke’s press conference had ushered him to a lift so that he could clarify the matter with customer agents at the airport.
“She told me, Tan Sri, the lift is already here. She wasn’t stopping me, she was just telling me that the lift had arrived,” he said.

Vigneswaran said the customer officer on duty then explained the dress code to him.
He was shown a circular from the Prime Minister’s Department, which regulates security areas, but said it did not mention any restrictions against wearing slippers.
“It only said ‘suitable clothing’.
“So, after that I continued (on my way). They could have stopped me, but they didn’t.
“The minister should know that he must hear both sides before coming up with a statement. He could have at least asked (me) what (happened).
“Hear both sides of the story before making a conclusion.”
When told by The Malaysian Insight of other documents specifically stating that sandals and slippers are not permitted in the VIP area, Vigneswaran said he had never seen such a circular and said it must be a new document. – November 17, 2018.
