THE crowd at the PKR Youth Congress today was shocked when Dr Afif Bahardin’s ripped up the list of candidates for Rafizi Ramli’s team during his final speech as PKR deputy youth chief.

He teared up as he was giving his emotional parting speech.

“This (the election process) was what we defended for the past nine weeks, no longer about the party’s idealism, it was no longer about who worked and who did not, it was no longer about who deserved it and who didn’t.

“What was important was that this paper (the list), was placed next to the tablet. The value of PKR’s future is like this paper,” he said before proceeding to tear the sheet of paper.

He also urged the members to push the new leadership to review the election system in the party as he noted that it was flawed.

“I do not want to dispute the results but I want us to realise and acknowledge that there is a flaw in our system.

“There is a flaw in the concept of democracy that we bring,” he added.

Dr Afif had earlier said that there should be an “in-house reform” in the party by the new leadership.

He said the flawed election process did not reflect the democratic principles that the party upholds. – November 16, 2018.
