IT is too early for a cabinet reshuffle in the new Pakatan Harapan government, which has been in power for only six months, said former prime minister Najib Razak.
He said any reshuffle will only raise questions on the credibility of the government as usually changes were done about a year or so into the administration.
“But if it happens soon, it breaks convention in this country,” Najib told reporters in the Parliament lobby today.
It was reported that Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad was unhappy with the performance of his cabinet and a change could be on the cards as early as the first quarter next year.
Najib also said the rumours can be interpreted as the new Pakatan Harapan ministers not performing up to Dr Mahathir’s standards.
“This could be interpreted as the appointed ministers are not capable or not doing their duties,” he said.
When Najib was prime minister, he formed the cabinet after the 13th general election on May 2013. The Pekan MP reorganised his cabinet a year later on June 2014. – November 14, 2018.
