EDUCATION Minister Maszlee Malik’s latest proposal to provide free breakfasts for B40 students shows little understanding of his ministry, former prime minister Najib Razak said.
The ministry already has a supplementary food plan, or Rancangan Makanan Tambahan (RMT), that has been in place since 1979, Najib said in a Facebook post today.
Targeting primary school students in rural areas and from low-income groups, the plan provides RM2.50 for children in the peninsula and RM3 to pupils in Sabah and Sarawak to supplement their meals at school.
“Maybe he is so caught up with the colour of school uniforms that he didn’t notice that his own Pakatan Harapan government had cut allocations for RMT in the Budget 2019.
“(You) do not have to ‘look east’. (Instead) spend more time understanding the ministry’s operations,” wrote Najib.
Maszlee made the suggestion recently during a working visit to Japan, where he visited Itabashi Daiichi Elementary School in Tokyo.
Najib said Maszlee appeared to be ignorant or had forgotten about the RMT because he “was too busy researching”. – November 7, 2018.
