COMMUNICATIONS and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said no prosecution should be done under the Sedition Act.

He was responding to Johari Abdul’s comment who urged the police to investigate A. Kadir Jasin under the act over his blog post which allegedly insulting the sultan of Kedah.

“I have responded to that. Our position is clear that there should be no prosecution under the Sedition Act, since we are going to repeal it,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

He said the decision had been made by the cabinet and stands.

“That’s the decision taken by the cabinet. I’ve tweeted about it. I think there are reports about that and my decision remains,” said Gobind.

On October 10, the cabinet agreed to put a moratorium on Sedition Act 1948.

Earlier today, Johari said he was disappointed with the post by Kadir, who is a Bersatu Supreme Council member.

“I urge the police to investigate Kadir under the Sedition Act because his writing insinuates that Sultan Sallehuddin is someone who takes advantage of his position to do business,” he told reporters in Parliament today. – November 1, 2018.
