BERSIH 2.0 is open to having discussions with Port Dickson MP Anwar Ibrahim over his alleged electoral offences during the recent by-election which returned him to Parliament after a two-decade absence.

Executive director Yap Swee Seng welcomed the chance to talk to Anwar over a list breaches of electoral regulations Bersih has compiled against him.

“It is better to have a dialogue with Anwar and meet him in person. We welcome him to have a discussion with us,” Yap told reporters in Petaling Jaya today.

Bersih would like to gather more information from Anwar before deciding on how to move forward on the issue, he said.

“We must have a conversation on what transpired and what happened on the ground.”

Yap added that the outcome of the dialogue with Anwar would be made public once Bersih is clear on what happened during the PD by election and what follow-up actions would be taken.

Anwar, who won the Port Dickson seat by 23,560 votes, welcomed Bersih’s criticism but denied flouting any law.

Bersih said the PKR president-elect committed six breaches, including proposing free tuition, holding a free concert at his operations room, a dinner organised for him and appearing at an army event with Defence Minister Mohammad Sabu. – October 30, 2018.

  • I think that the BERSIH activist are becoming a nuisance and a threat to our development /democracy.
Let's give the Gov't some space and not be a 'foreign' antagonist. Let our elected officials govern.
Bersih members should declare their assets and their sources of funds.
