THE lawyer of former spy agency chief Hasanah Abdul Hamid said today that his client was forced to borrow money to settle her RM500,000 bail.

“Even though her assets had been frozen by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, she had to pay bail,” Khairul Azam told The Malaysian Insight.

“She was forced to borrow from family and friends to pay the bail amount.”

Hasanah, the ex-director of the Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation, earlier today pleaded not guilty to one count of criminal breach of trust in relation to the misappropriation of US$12.1 million (RM50.22 million) at the Prime Minister’s Office ahead of the 14th general election.

Bail was set by Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court judge Azman Ahmad at RM500,000 in two sureties to be paid today. Hasanah was also ordered to surrender her passport to the court. – October 25, 2018.
