THE search for the last victim in the Paya Terubong landslide in Penang has reached its final stage.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department chief commissioner Saadon Moktar said 90% of the 0.9ha landslide site has been cleared.

The search now will continue non-stop until the body of the last man – believed to be Bangladeshi Md Rahazan – is found, he said.

“We have enough light and the weather is good. We have cleared 90% and will continue into the night.

“We hope to finish the search tonight,” he said.

Last night, the search had to be called off until 8am today due to rain.

The landslide on Friday at the construction site of the Paya Terubong pair road has killed several foreign labourers.

So far, nine bodies have been recovered. Two were found on Friday and another two were recovered on Saturday. Yesterday, another three bodies were found.

The latest two were found earlier today, leaving only Rahazan, according to the authorities’ list of people reported missing in the landslide. – October 22, 2018.
