SEARCH operations at the Paya Terubong landslide site today had focused on finding a missing container.

Penang fire and rescue department deputy chief Mohamad Shoki Hamzah said the contractor had lost 13 containers in the landslide, So far, 12 have been recovered.

“We will dig for this mysterious container,” he said earlier today, before the search operations were postponed due to rain to 8am tomorrow.

“The other missing victims could be in the same location as the missing container.”

There are still three missing victims on the authorities’ list.

So far, seven bodies have been recovered while four escaped with injuries in the landslide last Friday. They were all foreigners.

Shoki also said the container could be buried at a depth of 20m, much deeper than the 10m depth where rescuers found the seventh body this afternoon.

“There used to be a retention pond at the location. So it may be difficult to access,” he said. – October 21, 2018.
