UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is not power hungry and allowed others to run against him for the top post in the party’s recent elections, his wife Hamidah Khamis said.

Despite this, there are Umno members who are betraying him, she said, clarifying her remarks yesterday that “Malays are fighting Malays” under the new government.

Hamidah said she was referring to discord within Umno, which ruled the country through the Barisan Nasional coalition for six decades.

Umno was now divided, following its loss in the 14th general election, she said.

“There are people within the same party who are betraying one another. These same people cannot accept why Zahid Hamidi was elected as the president of Umno.

“The Umno presidency was not contested for the last 30 years.

“However, Zahid wanted the presidency to be contested, because he wanted to prove that he was not power hungry,” she said at a solidarity rally in Putrajaya for her husband last night.

Hamidah earlier said the clashes between leaders from political families “that have ruled this country for six decades” eroded the dignity of the Malays.

Zahid was arrested yesterday and slapped with 45 charges today. – October 19, 2018.

  • He is not being charged for being power hungry but for money laundering and CBT. Do you care to give an explanation to the extraordinary amounts of money and property he owns when his salary as DPM, Minister and MP over the years would have in totality amounted to a fraction of the sum? It is embarrassing tha leader of UMNO, protector of the Malays has been charged with 45 counts in court. He should resign as leader of UMNO and leader of the opposition while he contests the charges.

  • Hahaha what nonsense. Not power hungry but money greedy is more like it. His leadership qualities were always in question, as he is always aligned to gangsters and thugs. Like most in umno they will tell on each other since they were jealous of not getting a bigger slice of the kickbacks. All of them foul smelling, filthy bastards to ran the country down.

  • Nothing has been proven yet but by now the various charges would have drawn the world's attention to the plight of Umno-BN corruption while ruling Malaysia..

    • From a sociological, etc viewpoint is there an impediment to these wrongdoers that prevents them from recognising their misdeeds against country and people over years of misrule? How much harm have they done to themselves by allowing their souls to steep in corruption? Do they really think that by wearing the white skullcap they are forgiven by religion? Will they continue to wallow in corruption given half the chance to do so again? What tragedy would have taken place if the industrious Chinese especially and Indians had not come, or were not brought to Malaya by the British colonial rulers? To me it seems that our unique cultural diversity is kind of acting as a bulwark against further disintegration of the country?..

  • Zahid not power hungry?? If u say so... But then again, Umno has lost power. So actually, Zahid had nothing to be hungry about. Just a loser who one again hedged his cards with the wrong player. Remember what he attempted wth Mahathirs IC?

  • Thieves, liars, conmen, unexplained obscene wealthy politicians in power, chameleons, traitors - a pinch of dignity in them is already too much. In summary the poor Malaysians were robbed over 60 years. If the wealth and resources of Malaysia were fairly accounted for and distributed, we will not have today's problems. Many have woken and are clear minded after GE14. Thanks to TDM for opening everyone's eyes. Catch them all and reveal the depth of corrupted politicians to all Malaysians. Our country is blessed with your efforts and dedication. Long live Tun

  • It isnt your hubbys ambition thats being questioned in court. It is his greed, abuse of power and theft of public funds. You lot all the same, comically painful to watch, devoid of creativity or intellect, boooring.
