ACTIVISTS Siti Kasim and Mujahidin Zulkiffli were driving in Port Dickson when police outriders signalled them and other motorists, including those on the opposite lane, to stop.
The duo caught it on video, which has been posted on Siti’s Facebook page since late last night.
“Who is it (they are stopping traffic for)? For what? Everybody has to stop for them…mana dia? (where are they?) Look at the number plate,” Siti, the outspoken lawyer, was heard saying in the background.
“WMK 6. I think it’s the (Toyota) Vellfire,” Mujahidin said, as the video showed the vehicles passing them accompanied by police cars.
“Is this not abuse of power?” Siti said in the video.
Years of unpaid traffic summonses
A check by the duo later then revealed that WMK 6 was registered to prime minister-in-waiting Anwar Ibrahim, who is campaigning to win the Port Dickson parliamentary seat by-election which will pave for his return to Parliament.
The MyKad number of the vehicle’s owner matches Anwar’s. Records also showed that the driver of WMK 6 had broken a number of traffic regulations.
Siti posted a screenshot of an email Mujahidin received on the police summonses issued to the owner of WMK 6. The email stated the owner has 22 unsettled summonses totalling RM4,810 up until yesterday.
The summonses for offences like failing to obey traffic signals and speeding were several years old.
Today, the Star Online also quoted Mujahidin as saying that Anwar has 57 unpaid police summonses totalling RM8,730 from February 1999 until March 2016 for speeding, obstructing traffic and beating the red light.
Betrayal
In a separate video posted on her Facebook page last night, Siti and Mujahidin also shared their assessment of the Port Dickson by-election, which was orchestrated for Anwar’s return to parliament.
“Basically, it’s a betrayal to the voters who had not expected it. It was a manipulation of the democratic system,” Mujahidin, who is New Malaysia Times managing director.
He also highlighted alleged campaign violations, like using the military base, going to the mosque to supposedly deliver ‘tazkirah’ (religious talk) and launching a free e-tuition portal.
Mujahidin also alleged that the PDtuition portal said to be sponsored by Anwar was “rebadged” from the EZlearn2U.my website, an education portal developed in collaboration with the Perak government, Perak Foundation and others.
He said if the Perak government connection was true, then it was a blatant election offence because the campaign had used a government machinery.
Mujahidin also said if Anwar wanted to reform parliament, he should become a senator and fix the Barisan Nasional-dominated Senate.
“Why is he so impatient to get into the Dewan Rakyat?”
He also pointed out that it was not the people who had promised to make Anwar the next prime minister, but the politicians.
“I hope tomorrow, the people will demonstrate again that we are the ones in power, not the politicians who think they can play around with the system and the voters.
“He is not the PM yet but he is already calling up people. He has even told off the Election Commission. When he is PM, the people will be powerless,” Mujahidin said.
Vote with your instincts
Siti, who has been critical of the “Port Dickson move” from the beginning, also urged voters to ask themselves why Anwar was so desperate to be in Parliament.
“We all have to think wisely. Give us a surprise (by-election outcome). Show them the people’s power, that they don’t control us. We, the people, are the bosses.”
Siti also urged voters to follow their instincts when they cast their ballots tomorrow.
She slammed Anwar for going after people who had supported PH and fought for basic human rights, calling them “super liberals”.
“Anwar may have the support of the big guns like Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and (Council of Eminent Persons chairman) Daim Zainuddin.
“I know many of us love Tun (Dr Mahathir). But don’t think you must vote for Anwar because of Tun. Don’t be fooled by what Pakatan Harapan is showing you. We don’t know the politics behind it all.
In the by-election tomorrow, Anwar will be up against PAS’ Mohd Nazari Mokhtar and five independents - Stevie Chan, Isa Samad, Saiful Bukhari Mohd Azlan, Lau Seck Yan and Kan Chee Yuen. – October 12, 2018.
