MALAYSIANS are split over the Pakatan Harapan government’s performance after four months of its rule with five out of 10 people saying they were satisfied, market research firm Kajidata said of its recent survey findings.
Dissatisfaction was strongest in four states – Terengganu, Pahang, Johor and Sarawak – and in the 51-60 age group, it said.
The survey, conducted between September 12 and September 24 found 53.4% “satisfied” with the government’s performance. Of this, 44.3% were “very satisfied” and 9.1% “just satisfied”.
Of the 38.5% who said they were not satisfied, 31.6% said they were “very dissatisfied”.
Kajidata said the survey, conducted through telephone and interactive voice response (IVR) with 1,008 respondents, showed that people are still divided on the new PH government.
“Respondents in all age groups, except in the 51-to-60 group, say they are satisfied with the performance in the first 100 days.”
Of the four dissatisfied states, PAS-ruled Terengganu was the highest with 58% of respondents saying they were unhappy with Putrajaya, while 36% said they were satisfied and 6% had no opinion.
Pahang, the home state of former prime minister Najib Razak, registered the second highest rate of dissatisfaction at 56%.

Dr Mahathir’s performance
Terengganu also rated Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s performance poorly, with 53% saying they were not satisfied, while 40% said they were.
In Pahang, 45% were not satisfied and 53% were.
Overall, 55.8% of respondents said they are satisfied with Dr Mahathir’s performance, of whom 45% said they were “very satisfied”.
However, 10.8% said they were “merely satisfied”.
Of the 35.9% who were dissatisfied, 28.8% said they were “very unsatisfied”.
Promises, promises
The survey also found that 45.5% of those surveyed felt PH was delivering on its election promises.
However, 44.4% said the government was not keeping its promises, while 34.3% of those surveyed said they were “very dissatisfied”.
Despite the results, the survey found that if a national election were to be held again today, PH would still be the coalition of choice with 53% of respondents saying they would vote for the alliance again.
Kajidata said PH’s biggest support comes from the Indians (82%) and the Chinese (64%). – October 9, 2018.
