PKR’s central election committee (JPP) will probe allegations of discrepancies or inappropriate conduct by its officials if complaints are lodged, its chairman Rashid Din said.

Several party leaders, who are also candidates in the ongoing party polls, have recently raised issues over the election.

This morning Dr Afif Bahardin, who is contesting the PKR Youth chief post claimed that some committee officials had “tendencies” to promote certain candidates.

He said JPP, which was conducting the party polls, should be transparent and have integrity, instead of being seen to be campaigning for certain candidates.

When asked about Dr Afif’s claim, Rashid said he had no knowledge of such an issue.

“So far, we have not received any complaints about this issue,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

“Of late, there have been some complaints from this side and that side. Some other reporters asked me about Zuraida’s complaint earlier.

“Lodge an official complaint so JPP can investigate.”

Zuraida Kamaruddin, who is contesting to become vice-president, alleged there were some irregularities in the final vote tally at a few PKR division polls yesterday.

She said it was very strange that the votes for some division chiefs did not tally with the votes for deputy president hopeful, Mohamed Azmin Ali, although they belonged to the same camp.

The ongoing PKR polls, which is using an electronic voting system for the first time, has been problematic since it began last month.

Kedah and Penang PKR were the first states to vote but some system glitches had led to unhappiness among certain candidates and grassroot members.

JPP was sent scrambling to address weaknesses and improve the voting process.

Over the weekend, PKR members in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and the Federal Territories voted for their respective local and central leaders.

PKR members in Malacca, Negri Sembilan, Perlis, Kedah, Perak and Selangor will vote in the coming weeks, with Sabah and Sarawak wrapping up the polls next month.

The official results will be announced at the PKR national congress in November. – October 8, 2018.
