INDEPENDENT candidate Stevie Chan today lodged a police report against fellow candidate Anwar Ibrahim for allegedly bribing voters in the Port Dickson by-election.

The social media personality alleged that Anwar broke two laws under the Election Offences Act 1954, which prohibits candidates from promising to procure benefits for voters.

Chan said Anwar committed the offences on September 30 and October 4, when the PKR president-elect promised to build a five-star hotel and launched a free education programme in the federal constituency while doing campaign rounds.

“By informing the voters on programmes/projects which have been obtained and the sponsorship of online tuition for students in Port Dickson for free, we believe that Anwar has contravened Section 10(a) and (b) of the Election Offences Act, which is related to bribery,” he said in a statement today.

Chan lodged a report at the Port Dickson district police headquarters this afternoon.

He said he lodged the report because Anwar’s actions had gone against promises made by the new Pakatan Harapan government on fighting corruption and a “bribery mentality” that was said to be rife under the previous administration.

“I have made this report because I am against this culture of giving presents and promises, which has plagued our elections,” Chan said.

Election Commission (EC) chairman Azhar Azizan Harun told the public to lodge reports with the police or the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission over any election offence in Port Dickson. Polling is this Saturday. – October 8, 2018.

  • Political correctness is so utterly boring lah. And politics has started to taste like maggoty meat. So much hate directed at one man, just because his name is Anwar Ibrahim. Don't become blinded to what is authentically human in each of us, Stevie Chan. You have every right to run in PD but instead of lodging police repoorts against your rival like a snitching schoolboy, why don't you focus on what visionary ideals you represent? All I know of you is that you can't stand seeing any other human become superhuman or fulfill his or her destiny who doesn't happen to share your lifestyle preferences, that's all.
