Exporting the glory of durians

Kamal Ariffin

Dulai Fruits in Raub, Pahang, is one of the pioneers exporting durians to China.

The company produces paste and fruitlets and 90% of its products goes to the Chinese market.

The Malaysian Insight visited Dulai Fruit’s orchard and processing facility to get a better picture of how durians are harvested and processed for export.

The biggest draw for the China market is the sweet and fleshy musang king. The fruit which fetches a pretty price in the local market, doubles in price in China.

Consumers in China have found creative ways to use the fruit, including making pizza, durian hot pot and mooncakes. – August 1, 2018.
