UMNO vice president Ismail Sabri Yaakob took his oath of office as the ninth prime minister of Malaysia before Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara this afternoon.
The Agong appointed Ismail Sabri in accordance with Articles 40(2)(a) and 43(2)(a) of the federal constitution.
His appointment comes after the resignation of Muhyiddin Yassin on Monday, having lost his slim majority in Parliament.
Ismail, 61, is the third prime minister to be appointed since the 2018 general election. – August 21, 2021.
