Malaysia in lockdown

MALAYSIA yesterday went into lockdown for two weeks to battle a worsening coronavirus outbreak, as countries in Southeast Asia struggled with a resurgence in cases driven by highly infectious Covid-19 variants.
Having emerged relatively unscathed from the first wave of infection in March last year, Malaysia is now among the worst-hit by the pandemic. Of the nearly 2,800 virus deaths it has recorded since the start of the crisis, more than 40% of them occured in May alone.
In the last week, the country of 32 million has logged record daily infection numbers. It has a caseload of 570,000. – June 2, 2021.
