THE idea of Semporna Hero was sparked when a group of professional divers from got the idea to help the people, especially those living on the islands, during the pandemic.
Most of the volunteers are people who have lost their jobs during the outbreak of Covid-19.
They are funded by donations from the public and various organisations, including companies in the private sector.
A typical day for the volunteers starts at 6am with census taking. In the afternoon, they load food and other provisions onto a boat and set off to the islands, where they distribute the aid among the residents.
Semporna Hero coordination head Jamilah Ang said the aim was to help the people of Semporna who had trouble getting their food supplies at this difficult time. – November 6, 2020.
