A bioluminescent world like Avatar's Pandora in Penang

Pulsating colourful LED rope lights hung from the leafy canopy, provides an out-of-this-world backdrop for tourists at a garden in Penang.

Unofficially dubbed the Penang Avatar Secret Garden, busloads of tourists arrive every night to climb the small hillock behind the Thai Pak Koong Temple in Tanjung Tokong, Penang, to view this colourful and beautiful scenery.

Visitors to the garden immediately associate the LED lights with the surreal bioluminescent world in the fictional moon Pandora, as depicted in James Cameron’s 2009 blockbuster flick “Avatar”.

The garden is located just next to the 218-year-old temple and adjacent seafood restaurant. Entrance to the garden is free.

The project to beautify and light up the garden was undertaken and sponsored by MBI Group, The Star reported early this year.

Temple chairman Lio Chee Yeong was quoted as saying that the work started in August 2016 and was completed in time for Chinese New Year. – December 9, 2017.
