PAKATAN Harapan is facing growing discontent over its decision to allow rare earth refiner Lynas to continue operating in Malaysia, with hundreds of protesters gathering in Kuantan this morning to denounce the move.
They held up cut-outs of Prime Minister and Pakatan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad and PKR and Amanah presidents Anwar Ibrahim and Mohamad Sabu followed by DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang on a mock bus to depict the ruling coalition’s policy U-turn on the plant.
While the protest gimmick made for an entertaining spectacle, at the heart of the issue is the 6-month extension given to Lynas Advanced Material Plant (LAMP) to continue refining rare earth ore at the Gebeng Industrial Park. – August 18, 2019.
