Semenyih voters more concerned about money than issues of race, religion

Nazir Sufari

WHILE observers expect race and religion to feature heavily in the Semenyih by-election campaign, the average voter is more concerned about the new government’s unfulfilled promises about everyday matters such as the  rising cost of living and even the smoking ban in restaurants.

Semenyih is seeing a four-cornered fight between Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional, Parti Sosialis Malaysia and an independent candidate for the state seat in Selangor.

The state constituency near the Negri Sembilan border has 53,257 voters, who are Malay (68%), Chinese (17%), Indian (14%) and Orang Asli (1%). – February 18, 2019.
