PREPARATIONS for the Chinese New Year usually begin weeks before the festival.
In the Chinese tradition, each year is named after one of 12 animals, which feature in the Chinese zodiac. This year is the year of the pig.
The year ends on a high note with a big family reunion dinner on the 30th day, or Lunar New Year’s Eve, on February 4 this year. After the feast, families will stay up past midnight to welcome in the new year. – February 2, 2019.
