DR Mahathir Mohammad has been admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) last night with a chest infection following a bout of the flu.
IJN said the Pakatan Harapan chairman had been admitted to the general ward.
“Dr Mahathir will be admitted for a few days to allow for treatment and observation. Visits are only for close family members,” it said in a statement.
The 92-year-old, who has been setting a gruelling pace since being picked as the pact’s candidate for prime minister, had cancelled a scheduled campaign programme in Bentong today.
He was to have gone on a walkabout in Bentong, to be followed by a ceramah at a Felda settlement there.
In a tweet, his daughter Marina said she had visited her father at IJN this morning.
“Went to visit Dad this morning. He’s good, just needs some rest. He’ll be back to kick some butts again soon!” she wrote.
In December last year, Dr Mahathir did not attend a ceramah in Ipoh due to poor health.
In July, he had cancelled his attendance at a fundraising dinner in Kluang for health reasons.
In August 2016, Dr Mahathir had also been hospitalised at IJN for a chest infection. – February 10, 2018.

I have no malice towards him now when I compare him against the present pm
He is the lesser devil
It takes a devil to catch another devil
And given the choice I have, I prefer the lesser evil
