STRONG Typhoon Damrey has killed three people and left many others missing after it landed in Vietnam’s central Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen provinces early this morning, China’s Xinhua news agency reported quoting provincial authorities.

Damrey claimed two human lives and left several local people in Phu Yen missing, the provincial People’s Committee said, adding that the typhoon also blew roofs of thousands of houses away, sank more than 100 fishing ships and boats, and damaged many aquaculture areas.

The typhoon caused a wall collapse which killed a child in Khanh Hoa’s Nha Trang city and flooded many roads and streets in the city.

Damrey also caused moderate rain and fairly strong winds in central Da Nang city, which will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Leaders’ Week from November 6 to 11.

According to the Da Nang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the municipal authorities have put forth three scenarios in which the city will have to respond to the typhoon, floods and high waves, even tsunamis to help ensure safety and security of the week with the participation of some 10,000 delegates, 2,000 chief executive officers and 3,000 reporters. – Bernama, November 4, 2017.
