THE prosecution decided to drop the two additional charges related to the Liberation of Tamil Tigers Eelam (LTTE) against P. Gunasekaran as he is already facing similar charges, said Attorney-General Tommy Thomas.

He said the DAP assemblyman could face life imprisonment if convicted of an earlier charge of supporting the defunct Tamil separatist group.

“So, there is no need for overkill. It is, therefore, a lie to claim that all charges against Gunasekaran were dropped,” he told news portal Malaysiakini today.

Thomas said there is that nothing would stop Gunasekaran from facing further charges in the future.

Yesterday, the Seremban Sessions Court allowed the prosecution’s application to dismiss two charges of possessing materials linked to LTTE against Seremban Jaya assemblyman Gunasekaran.

Judge Madihah Harullah allowed the application by deputy public prosecutor Aslinda Ahad.

The DAP assemblyman had faced charges of being in possession of LTTE-related items at his office and house in Seremban on October 10 at 9.58am and 11.50am, respectively.

He is being held at Sungai Buloh Prison was not present in court yesterday..

On October 29, Gunasekaran was charged at the Malacca Sessions Court with supporting LTTE, and was slapped with another charge at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on October 31. – November 7, 2019.
