Report RM5 million offer to MACC, social media users tell Syed Saddiq

MALAYSIANS on Facebook and Twitter are sceptical over Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman’s allegation today that he was offered RM5 million to leave Bersatu.

The Bersatu Youth (Armada) chief told reporters in Kuala Lumpur that the offer came from those close to the prime minister’s office.

Many on social media are demanding for proof of this “offer”, with some chiding him for holding a press conference, instead of lodging a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“Report la @SPRMMalaysia bukan buat PC kata nk hapuskan corruption,” said Apai Jebat (@Jebatronlegacy) on Twitter. (Report to MACC, not hold a press conference. You said you wanted to fight corruption).

Similarly, Syahir (@5YAHIR) wrote “Report @SPRMMalaysia bukan buat PC. Tunjuk bukti cepat2. Jgn jadi macam @EzamNor,” wrote Syahir5 (@YAHIR) on Twitter. (Report to MACC, not hold a press conference. Show us the proof quickly, don’t become like former Bersatu member, Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor.)

“Ada nama tak? Reportable to macc or not?” asked another Twitter user, Encik Khalid‏ (@_Acat_). (Got a name? Can it be reported to MACC?)

Yindian™‏ (@yindian5) tweeted at Syed Saddiq to name and shame the person who made the offer.

“Name that aide and shame him publicly @SyedSaddiq! That’s more honorable than just alleging it. Thanks.”

When asked for proof at the press conference, Syed Saddiq said he had the proof but added he will discuss this with his lawyers before taking it to MACC.

He added that a network of corrupt people had approached other Bersatu members who have since left the party.

Other users told Syed Saddiq to take up the offer, and ask for more.

Della (@dayangnas) put it in a succinct tweet, “TAKE IT!”

Others were asking for the amount in different currencies.

“In Euro pls, u tell em Saddiq,” said Twitter user Aizat Azm3 (@aizatazmi90).

“Next time they offer you money. Tell them money must be in US dollars,” Leroy Ng (@leroyng) tweeted.

In an Instagram post yesterday, Syed Saddiq revealed that he had been offered a scholarship to pursue graduate studies in public policy at Oxford University.

However, in this morning’s bombshell announcement, he said he will not pursue his studies and instead will “continue to expose this systematic network of corrupt activities”.

On Facebook, a number of commenters lauded Syed Saddiq for turning down the money and forgoing his studies.

“Full respect young man… With such principle in life… You can be a great leader… Not many can resists such temptation…” said Walter Ang.

“There are men with dignity and principles out there. Not everyone are rubbish like them. I doubt if there’s any one there with dignity still in the party. Well done Syed Saddiq. I am sure you will be someone in our new reformed country. Keep it up,” wrote Min Lew in the comments section.

Cassel Krishnan suggests that ruling party, Barisan Nasional, is fearful of an educated and passionate personality like Syed Saddiq.

“This is the face that BN is scared of; the young and educated Malaysians that are passionate about the future of this country,” he said. – October 2, 2017.
