Umno Youth backs Asri’s claims that Muslims are bullied under Pakatan

PERLIS mufti Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin has found support in Umno Youth over his claim that Muslims are being bullied under the Pakatan Harapan government.

Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the outspoken mufti had contacted him yesterday and asked for the wing’s support for his concerns over Putrajaya’s move to arrest preacher Muhammad Zamri Vinoth, who has been remanded for allegedly insulting Hinduism.

“He called to ask Umno Youth to support his statement over his concerns about the PH government’s approach in arresting his friend Muhammad Zamri Vinoth,” Asyraf said in a statement on Facebook.

“I am happy that Dr Maza has admitted the reality that Islam under PH is being bullied and is not safe.

“I hope Dr Asri will reveal all the falsehoods of the PH govt, especially where it concerns the interests of Islam and its believers, and all citizens.”

Asri had said that Putrajaya’s arrest of Zamri was hypocritical as the government had not acted against those who had made insulting remarks against Muslims.

Asyraf said Umno Youth agreed with this, and has “repeatedly spoken against the double standards of the PH government.”

The youth chief cited as examples, the lack of action against PH leaders such as minister in charge of national unity P. Waytha Moorthy and Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran.

“They made remarks that could have incited unrest and tension between the races and religions.

“No action despite police reports being lodged,” Asyraf said, referring to their remarks made after the riots at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Subang Jaya in November last year.

The PH ministers had blamed the police for acting slowly and for describing the riots as a fight between two Indian gangs, when the temple intruders had been a group of Malay men hired by the developer that owns the land occupied by the temple. – April 30, 2019.
