AFTER the hue and cry over the development of Taman Rimba Kiara and meetings with the developer involving Pakatan Harapan politicians, residents of Taman Tun Dr Ismail want to know why there is still no action taken against former federal territories minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

Save Taman Rimba Kiara (STRK) coordinator Leon Koay said there are enough signs to show that Tengku Adnan had a conflict of interest with the project to build blocks of multi-storey high-end apartments on land marked as public space.

Koay said even the Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4) highlighted Tengku Adnan’s conflict of interest with the project that was approved in 2017 amid irregularities.

“What are PH and the Federal Territories Ministry doing about Ku Nan? 

“Isn’t (there enough) to show a conflict of interest (in order to take action). What is happening?” Koay told The Malaysian Insight.

Tengku Adnan is facing two charges of receiving RM3 million in bribes linked to a separate development, in Jalan Semarak, Kuala Lumpur, but to date, no action has been brought against him over Taman Rimba Kiara.

Last month, C4 executive director Cynthia Gabriel said Tengku Adnan must be questioned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over his decision to allow the development of Taman Rimba Kiara.

The connection between Ku Nan and the directors of the companies awarded the development project raised questions of “serious conflict of interests”, she said.

Tengku Adnan, as the former minister, had oversight of Kuala Lumpur City Hall and was also chairman of Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan (YWP).

Under him, the land title for Taman Rimba Kiara, which was public land, was transferred to YWP, which then entered into a joint venture with developer Memang Perkasa Sdn Bhd to build eight blocks of 42- to 54-storey apartments and one 29-storey block of affordable housing.

DBKL gave the project the green light to proceed in July 2017 despite TTDI residents’ objections.

Koay asked what PH will do about C4’s report on Tengku Adnan’s conflict of interest with the project.

“The report has come out, so what are they going to do about it?”

Meanwhile, a joint working committee formed to resolve the stalemate over the project is to meet after Chinese New Year, Koay added.

Its last meeting in December saw Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh reject the developer’s counter proposal to scale down the condominium building from eight to four blocks.

“Yeoh didn’t go into much details because she said the proposal was unacceptable. She requested the developer to come out with something that is further scaled down,” Koay said.

The committee comprises Yeoh, YWP, the ministry and representatives from the TTDI residents’ association and Bukit Kiara longhouse.

“The next joint working committee meeting will be held after Chinese New Year. We will wait for them to advise us accordingly. 

“Our expectation is to see a further scale-down by the developer.”– February 3, 2019.
