MCA missed the opening of the Umno annual general assembly yesterday because it was preparing to hold party elections as well as reform work.
“... MCA wants to focus on its own party election and reform work to ensure everything goes smoothly,” the Chinese party said on Facebook today.
Umno yesterday launched its AGM sans its Barisan Nasional partner, but welcomed top PAS leaders at the event at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
MCA’s absence was conspicuous at the event, as was the presence of PAS members who stood out in the party green against the sea of red-garbed Umno members.
In his presidential address, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he supported PAS in its bid to make Islam to the supreme governing power in Malaysia.
“Personally, I support PAS’ slogan that Islam should lead,” he said.
Zahid said that while Umno was not racist the party must reject calls for equal treatment of all races as espoused by DAP’s “Malaysian Malaysia” concept. – September 30, 2018.
