A BRUNEI national was killed while two Malaysians drowned after the boats they were on collided on Sungai Simpang Tiga in Limbang in northern Sarawak this afternoon.

Two other Brunei nationals were reported “seriously injured” in the 2.19pm accident.

The bodies of the two drowned Malaysians were found late this afternoon near the vicinity of the collision. They were passengers of a commuter ferry boat locally known as a “penambang”,

They have been identified as 7-year-old Awang Syukri Awangku Rizan and 21-year-old Mohd Nazmi Marali.

Awang’s body was found by villagers at around 5.30pm about 100 metres from the crash site, while Nazmi’s body was found nearby at around 6pm.

The Fire and Rescue Department said the “penambang” had six people on board while the Brunei speedboat had 20 people on board.

The dead and injured Brunei nationals have been sent home.

Brunei is just minutes away from Limbang, and Bruneians going there to shop is a common occurrence. – September 27, 2018.
