LOW Taek Jho, the central figure of the newly released book Billion Dollar Whale, will do anything and say anything to stay out of jail, even at the cost of ordinary citizens, said DAP lawmaker Tony Pua.

The Damansara MP said no one should be surprised by claims of innocence from Low, popularly known as Jho Low.

“I’m not surprised. He is a wheeler-dealer. A survivor. He will do whatever he can to stay out of jail,” Pua told reporters at the launch of the book by co-author Tom Wright in Kuala Lumpur today.  

Penang-born Jho Low had claimed his innocence on his revamped Squarespace-hosted website, saying he is being wrongfully portrayed by Wall Street Journal reporters Wright and Bradley Hope in their book.

“With hindsight I may have done things differently, like any young person,” Jho Low recently posted on his website.

“Any mistakes I made do not amount to the sweepingly broad and destructive allegations against me.”

The opposing sentiment was expressed today at the Kinokuniya book store in Suria KLCC, which saw hundreds of people lining up for hours to have copies of their book signed.

“This shows that people who fight for justice can win the day and evil people will get their day in court,” Pua said.

“His (Jho Low) shame knows no bounds, to obtain freedom and wealth, even at the expense of the man on the street,” he said

Copies of the book, which revolves around Jho Low’s alleged role in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal, have sold out. – September 25, 2018.
