Selangor cops raid 13 liquor shops

POLICE have raided 13 liquor shops in Selangor and arrested 10 people following cases of methanol poisoning which took 28 lives.

Selangor police chief Mazlan Mansor said that the raids were carried out at Shah Alam, Sg Buloh, Gombak, and Kajang.

“During the raids, police confiscated 1,021 liquor bottles and 1,695 cans of various brands at the premises,” he said in a statement.

Mazlan said five people were arrested in Shah Alam, three in Gombak, one in Sg Buloh, and one in Kajang.

Those arrested were three Malaysians and seven foreigners under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 for possession of contraband.

Earlier, Selangor announced two more people had died due to methanol poisoning in Selangor, bringing the total fatalities nationwide to 28, 22 of which are from the state.

Twenty-two other victims are still being treated at hospitals around the Klang Valley.

Apart from the 22 deaths in Selangor, four died in Kuala Lumpur and two in Ipoh. β€“ September 21, 2018.
