INCOMING PKR president Anwar Ibrahim today brushed aside the purported tiff between Azmin Ali and Rafizi Ramli.
Rafizi is challenging Azmin for the deputy president’s post in PKR’s polls and has been campaigning on the platform that only his team can ensure Anwar becomes the next prime minister after Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
His camp has also accused Azmin of having a personal agenda and forgetting the party’s reform agenda.
Their presence at a press conference by Anwar on his Port Dickson by-election candidacy today was their first appearance together in recent months.
“Usually you have questions for Azmin and Rafizi, but no questions now?” asked Anwar at the press conference in PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya.
Anwar said that the presence of these two, along with other PKR top leaders, at the press conference was a sign that the party was united, and took the by-election seriously.
“The mere fact that entire leadership is here shows that we don’t take the by-election lightly. We have to appeal to the voters and explain our position.
“We must trust that they will support us but we have to work very hard,” he said.
Apart from Azmin and Rafizi, also present were outgoing PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
PKR MP Danyal Balagopal Abdullah had vacated the Port Dickson seat to allow Anwar to contest and make a comeback to Parliament.
Nomination date for the Port Dickson by-election is on September 29 and polling is on October 13. – September 21, 2018.
