THREE more people have died due to methanol poisoning in Selangor, bringing total fatalities nationwide to 28, 22 of which are from the state.

This was announced by Selangor police today.

Twenty-two other victims are still being treated at hospitals around the Klang Valley.

Apart from the 22 deaths in Selangor, four died in Kuala Lumpur and two in Ipoh.

The deaths in Selangor comprise two Malaysians, six Nepalese, 10 Myanmarese, one Indian, two Bangladeshis, and one of unknown nationality.

Initial investigations by the Federal Territory and Selangor Health Departments showed the victims had bought the deadly drinks from liquor stores in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

Samples of the drinks have been sent to the Sg Buloh National Public Health Laboratory for analysis.

Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said there could be more such cases and that the public would be updated accordingly on new developments in the case.

Police have raided several liquor shops in the Klang Valley and arrested at least seven proprietors. β€“ September 21, 2018.
