Azmin-Rafizi clash won’t affect PKR, says Anwar

THE clash between PKR deputy president Azmin Ali and vice-president Rafizi Ramli for the No. 2 position will not have any adverse effect on the party, said Anwar Ibrahim.

The PKR president-elect said he does not see this happening.

“In any democratic exercise, when there is battle for key positions, it will seen as somewhat cracking the base.

“I have seen states organising programmes for both of them.

I don’t see this massive boycott for each other,” he told Channel News Asia tonight.

Azmin, the economic affairs minister and Rafizi, the former Pandan MP, are contesting the deputy president’s post in the party polls this month.

Anwar said he was aware of excesses and money (politics) and will not tolerate it.

“(The) Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission arrested them. They have our backing but if it is established (they are guilty), we will sack them.”

On Dr Mahathir cancelling mega-projects with China and the high-speed rail (HSR), Anwar said there were dubious deals made between the previous administration and specific companies.

“Our financial condition doesn’t warrant us to embark on mega-projects.

“We scrap it first then later relook at it. If it is deemed important, then can consider it later.”

The government is not against China or negative against China investors, he said.

“We just can’t afford the RM55 billion project. Dr Mahathir made the right decision.” – September 18, 2018.

  • It will not affect the party, as long as no one is challenging Anwar, the undisputed supreme leader.

    • He has to quell the clash first because the clash has made PKR look so ugly to the people.
